Asheville -- October 6, 2023: U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina Dena J. King announced in a press release Wednesday embezzlement charges against a  Waynesville woman.

King stated that Amy Elizabeth Curry, 46, of Waynesville, N.C., has been charged with wire fraud and money laundering for allegedly embezzling at least $1.5 million from a senior assisted living facility.

The indictment alleges that Curry defrauded and embezzled at least $1.5 million from Silver Bluff, LLC (Silver Bluff), a Canton, N.C. senior living and care facility, between December 7, 2022, through April 4, 2023. Curry was Silver Bluff's office manager and bookkeeper from July 2022 to April 2023, according to the indictment. Curry managed Silver Bluff's financial accounts and accounting records. Curry moved at least $1.5 million from Silver Bluff's bank accounts to Curry and her then-boyfriend J.C.'s bank accounts during a five-month period, according to the indictment. Curry purchased a 2020 Ford F-150 pick-up vehicle with Silver Bluff embezzlement cash in March 2023, according to the indictment.

A notice of forfeiture states that the defendant must surrender all property, currency, and monetary instruments implicated in the offenses alleged in the indictment to the United States. The government will seek a forfeiture money judgment of at least $1,518,771 as the proceeds of the charge document violations. Four vehicles (a 2023 Polaris, a 2023 Nissan Maxima, a 2020 Ford F-150, and a 2020 Kia Optima) and $117,867.49 from four bank accounts confiscated during the inquiry are also subject to forfeiture procedures.

The wire fraud charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. The money laundering offense carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

U.S. Attorney King thanked the FBI and the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office for their investigation of the case.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Asheville is in charge of Curry’s prosecution.
