Asheville Police Arrest Robbery and Kidnapping Suspect
Asheville -- July 24, 2023: Asheville Police Department Officers were called to Ascot Point Circle in south Asheville at 10:54 AM Friday for a reported kidnapping at gunpoint.
According to a news report by the APD, officers found the victim, a 37-year-old man. The man was able to get away from two armed robbers. A preliminary investigation revealed this incident began when the victim was outside his home at Ascot Point Circle and two males approached him, forced him into his vehicle, taking him at gunpoint to get money. The victim eventually escaped, and contacted the police, giving them a description and a possible location. The officers canvassed the area and were able to detain two suspects, one of whom was a juvenile.
Detectives and Forensic Technicians executed a search warrant on an apartment connected to the two suspects and recovered a pistol and other evidence. Further investigation and consultation with the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office led to charges.
Jahad Marquise Craig was charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, 1st Deg. Kidnapping, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.
Detectives worked with the N.C. Dept. of Juvenile Justice to file charges on the involved juvenile who was taken into secure custody.
Craig is currently being held in the Buncombe County Detention Facility under no bond (ineligible for release) issued by the magistrate.
