Arrest Yancey County in 5 Month Long Investigation
Yancey County -- February 27, 2023: The Yancey County Sheriff's Office's Sergeant
Joe Pate initiated a traffic stop on February 11th, which resulted in the recovery of numerous stolen items and the arrest of Matthew Edward Carr of Marion.
Further charges were brought after a five-month, multi-county investigation into many break-ins at different locations in different counties. Items that were stolen from numerous sites across three counties have been found in large quantities.
Carr with Simple Possession of Schedule III Controlled Substance, Felony Larceny, Felony Second Degree Burglary, Felony Possession of Firearm by a Felon, Felony Larceny of a Firearm, Felony Breaking and Entering, Felony Larceny after Break/Enter, Felony Possession of Burglary Tools, Felony Possession Stolen Goods/Property, (2) Counts Felony Poss RCV Stolen Property Cert Fel.
Many more stolen items have been recovered as a result of additional search warrants being issued and carried out on Carr's other property. There will be more costs in the future. There are further arrest warrants out for more suspects.
