Henderson County Medics Seriously Injured in Accident
Henderson County -- July 1, 2021 Henderson County Rescue Squad: HCRS Personnel Involved in Accident
Yesterday evening, two of our personnel were transporting a patient to a facility when they were struck head on by another vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver of the vehicle that struck them died at the scene. Our personnel were seriously injured and were transported to Mission Hospital. As of this afternoon one of them is in critical but stable condition and the other one is in stable condition. At the request of family members, we will not be disclosing the names of our personnel involved in the accident or the extent of their injuries. The patient in our ambulance was also injured and was taken by another ambulance to a local hospital. They were treated and released.
Much like if someone in your family was injured, our Rescue Squad family mobilized immediately to assist at the scene, at the station, and at the hospital. Our extended family of Henderson County 911 Communications, Henderson County EMS, Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, Blue Ridge Fire & Rescue, Henderson County Emergency Management, and the NC State Highway Patrol worked the incident scene and provided excellent care to those who needed it. Henderson County could not ask for better Emergency Services personnel to care for them in their time of need. We could not do this job without each other.
We want to express our condolences to the family of the driver who was killed. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this very difficult time. We also ask that you keep our personnel and the patient we were transporting in your thoughts and prayers. Our department will continue to provide support during this healing process to our injured and their families. We are also providing all our personnel the outlet to talk about this incident with peer support counselors.
Thank you for your continued support of our department.
