Forsythe County Inmate Dies
FORSYTHE County -- NC Department of Public Safety reported the death of an inmate yesterday:

Inmate Matthew Howlett died today at Bertie Correctional Institution after an apparent suicide. He was found unresponsive in his cell at approximately 11:55 a.m. Prison medical staff and local paramedics responded and worked to resuscitate the inmate. He was pronounced dead at 12:14 p.m. at the facility.
Howlett, 52, was serving time for several offenses, including felony breaking and entering in Forsyth County in 2009. Howlett served 9 years and 5 months of his sentenced, was scheduled to be released in December 2019.
The incident is under investigation.
