Asheville -- Asheville Police Department Reported Today: On September 13 the Asheville Police Department (APD) responded to three separate incidents of gun discharges into occupied buildings. These incidents are not believed to be related. Fortunately, no one reported injuries in any of these incidents.


Since January 1, 2020 the Asheville Police Department has responded to 421 calls for service for gun discharges and gunshot wounds. In addition, there have been 31 victims who have been shot in the City of Asheville during the same time period. At approximately 2 a.m. APD responded to the Waffle House restaurant at 210 Smokey Park Highway in response to a report of a shot being fired into the business. Officers arrived to find that a one bullet had been fired from the parking lot and into one of the windows to the business, which was occupied by employees and patrons at the time.
At approximately 12 p.m. APD responded to a report of shots being fired into an occupied residence on Whispering Pines Drive in south Asheville. The officers arrived to find that a bullet had been fired into the home through an exterior wall.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. APD responded to shots being fired into an occupied residence on West Chapel Road in south Asheville. The officers arrived to find that several bullets struck an exterior wall of the home and hit items within the kitchen. A canvass of the neighborhood revealed that gunshots had been heard during the early morning hours by a nearby resident.
