Former In-home Registered Nurse Arrested, Charged After SBI Investigation

On Monday, July 27, 2020, a Haywood County grand jury indicted Jace Theodosiou, 24, of Asheville, on charges of felony child abuse-inflicting physical injury and felony embezzlement of a controlled substance.

In December of 2019, the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office requested the SBI to investigate the possible theft and misuse of opioid-based controlled substances by Theodosiou who had reportedly overdosed on these medications.  At the time of the incident, Theodosiou was providing contracted in-home nursing care to a juvenile patient with extreme special needs in Canton, NC.  Theodosiou had been found unconscious during his shift in the patient’s bedroom by the patient’s father.

On Tuesday, August 4, 2020, Theodosiou turned himself in at the Buncombe County Detention Center around noon and was charged with felony child abuse-inflicting physical injury and felony embezzlement of a controlled substance.  He went before a magistrate and was issued a $20,000 unsecured bond on each charge.  The North Carolina Board of Nursing has suspended Theodosiou’s nursing license.
