Man Faces LIfe Sentence in Prison

McDowell County --  A McDowell County jury convicted Jeffrey Allen Higgins, 40, of first-degree murder on Thursday, May 22, 2025.  For the Class A felony, he received a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Deputies from the McDowell County Sheriff's Office responded to a gunshot incident involving Higgins on Marion's Fairview Road on November 9, 2023.  Higgins shot the victim, Jimmy Lee Cool, who passed away from his wounds.
