Deadly Gunfire Erupts at Catawba County House Party, One Killed, 11 Injured
Catawba County -- A house party in Catawba County turned into a scene of chaos and tragedy early Sunday morning when gunfire erupted, leaving one person dead and at least 11 others wounded.
The incident, which occurred around 12:45 a.m. at a residence on Walnut Acres Drive in the Mountain View area, has prompted a multi-agency investigation.
Authorities reported that as many as 100 people were present at the gathering, which was described as a pool party with attendees ranging in age from 16 to 58. The tranquil suburban neighborhood was shattered by the sound of at least 80 gunshots, sending partygoers scrambling for cover and fleeing to their vehicles.
The deceased victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Of the 11 individuals who sustained injuries, one was reported to be in critical condition, while others suffered serious wounds. While some of the injured have since been released from the hospital, several remain under medical care.
The investigation into the shooting is being led by the Catawba County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Hickory Police Department, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), and the FBI. Investigators believe that multiple shooters were involved in the incident. As of now, no arrests have been made, and details regarding potential suspects have not been released.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Authorities acknowledged a noise complaint from a neighboring home approximately two hours before the shooting, but they do not believe it was connected to the subsequent gunfire.
Law enforcement officials are urging anyone who attended the party or possesses any information related to the shooting to come forward and contact their offices.
