Columbus -- Press Release Polk County Sheriff's Office:  On May 13, 2025, Polk County Sheriff Tim Wright was involved in an incident while retrieving his mail from a property jointly owned with a former partner.

As Sheriff Wright was leaving the residence, a male approached his vehicle. The Sheriff exited his vehicle to speak with the individual, who became belligerent and approached the Sheriff in an aggressive manner.
In response, the Sheriff defended himself, leading to an altercation.
Polk County Emergency Medical Services and  Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.   At this time, no criminal charges have been filed in connection with the incident.

In accordance with standard protocol, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office has referred the matter to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and the 42nd Prosecutorial District Attorney’s Office for review, if warranted.
