Drug Charges After Traffic Stop in Rutherford County

Rutherford County --  Yancey County Sheriff's Office: On February 25th, 2025, investigators with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office A.C.E. Team were patrolling the area of US Hwy 74 in Ellenboro.

While on patrol, the investigators attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding. The vehicle attempted to evade the investigators but came to a stop in the driveway of a residence on Ellenboro Henrietta Road. During the vehicle stop, K9 Ranger was deployed to conduct a free-air sniff of the vehicle. K9 Ranger alerted to the odor of narcotics. Upon searching the vehicle, investigators seized the following:

1 Glock Handgun
20 Grams of Methamphetamine
25 Grams of Cocaine
10 Grams of Marijuana
Various types of drug paraphernalia
As a result, Torrance Jamar Laborn, 34, of Grover, NC, was arrested and charged with the following:
Possession of a Firearm by a Felon
PWIMSD Methamphetamine
PWIMSD Cocaine
PWIMSD Marijuana
Maintaining a Vehicle for a Controlled Substance
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Exceeding the Posted Speed Limit
Laborn was given a $40,000 secured bond.
