
Asheville Man Sentenced 5+ Years for Shooting
Asheville -- November 4, 2024: Buncombe County District Court: Terrence Lamont Burt Jr. was given a sentence after pleadingย guilty to two felonies:

discharging weapon into occupied dwelling and felony assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Superior Court Judge Marvin P. Pope gave Burt a prison sentence of 65 to 90 months with the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections.

A gunshot was heard in the 40 block of Mount Clare Avenue in Asheville on September 6, 2023, just after 10:45 p.m.ย Asheville police arrived, they found a 68-year-old man who had been shot four times. Officers gave the victim medical help until EMS came and took them to Mission Hospital, where they were in critical condition.

Investigators found that the shooting happened after a fight broke out over a $40 drug transaction debt that hadn't been paid.
Burt told detectives that he was remorseful. The gun was never found.

The victim was released from the hospital after getting care that saved his life, but said he didn't want to be a part of the case against Burt.
