Rutherford County -- November 1, 2024: Rutherford County Sheriff's Office: Today,  Deputies with the Rutherford County

Sheriff’s Office, A-Crew Road Patrol Division responded to the area of Price Cemetery Road in reference to a larceny that had just occurred. According to the caller the suspect stole multiple items:  a loaded firearm. Responding Deputies located the suspect who was attempting to leave the area on Duncans Creek Road on foot.

Deputies detained the suspect who was identified as Charles Matthew Kelly. Charles was wearing the belt/holster and had a loaded magazine in his pocket that he had just stole from the victim. Furthermore, Charles was in possession of approximately 20 grams of methamphetamine, 2 dosage units of Lorazepam, 9 dosage units of Tramadol, 4 pipes, and multiple syringes.

After an investigation, Charles led Deputies to the area in the woods where he had thrown the firearm, as the Deputies closed in on his location while he was attempting to flee the area. Charles also had two outstanding orders for his arrest out of Rutherford County.

As a result, Charles Matthew Kelly, 32 of Cleveland County, was arrested and charged with the following:

Larceny of a Firearm
Possession of a Firearm by Felon
PWIMSD Methamphetamine
Simple Possession Schedule IV Controlled Substance Lorazepam
Simple Possession Schedule IV Controlled Substance Tramadol
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Misdemeanor Larceny
And the outstanding charges:
Failure to Appear on a Possess Stolen Motor Vehicle
Failure to Appear on a Resisting Public Officer
Charles, who has a history of violent crimes and firearm possession is currently being held on an $80,000 secured bond.
