Storm Debris Removal Update

Crews continue to work on curbside storm debris removal and processing solid waste.
The estimated value of removing storm debris in Henderson County is more than $10 million. For context, the County’s annual Solid Waste budget is about $8 million. FEMA will cover the cost for debris removal. But this means more than a year’s worth of solid waste from the storm will have to be processed on top of the normal amount, which is about 120,000 tons a year.

We want to thank our residents for your help and understanding with this tremendous undertaking. Thank you for your patience with the long lines at the Transfer Station and with the curbside storm debris pickup.
A reminder Henderson County will pick up all storm debris for free that is pushed to the right of way on DOT, municipal and private roads. The county is partnering with the municipalities within the county for this pickup service too.
Crews will pick up all curbside storm debris in Henderson County. The County is committed to continuing work until all storm debris is removed. Please be patient. If we missed picking up debris on your right of way we will return.

Sheriff’s Office warns against disaster fraud

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office is reminding everyone to stay vigilant against potential disaster-related fraud. The Sheriff’s Office highlights that FEMA Inspectors will:
-Never ask for your nine-digit registration number (they will already have that)
-Always wear an official badge. Ask them for ID.
-Not request bank information. FEMA never charges for an inspection.
-Not climb on roofs or enter crawl spaces.
The Sheriff’s Office also recommends using licensed or verified contractors that have reliable references for repairs and to require contractors detail the job to be done with guarantees in writing. If FEMA inspectors show up and you haven’t applied for assistance, tell them right away. Thieves may try to apply for FEMA assistance using names and other personal information they have stolen from survivors.

FEMA Disaster Recovery Center

The Henderson County Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) is in the Blue Ridge Commons Shopping Center at 2111 Asheville Highway, Hendersonville NC 28791.

The DRC is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The DRC will provide federal, state and local resources for county residents as they apply for FEMA assistance f rom the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
