The Snow Hill Convenience Center is closed due to a power outage.
All other Convenience Centers are closing at 3:00 p.m. today (September 26) and will be closed tomorrow (September 27).
The mobile sanitation unit will not operate today or tomorrow (September 26 & 27).
The major road closure at this time is NC Highway 226 (Crimson Laurel Way) near South Mitchell Avenue in Bakersville. There is a threat of flooding from Cane Creek and debris washed into the roadway.
There are reports of side roads being closed:

Whitson Branch Road due to high water.
Huntdale Road due to high water.
POWER OUTAGES

As of 11:15 AM:

There are 11 customers without power reported by French Broad EMC.
There are 967 customers without power reported by Duke Energy.
These numbers will vary as crews work to restore power.
We are working to gather rainfall reports.

IMPORTANT:

Hurricane Helene is still approaching the Florida coast, so we have significant rainfall and winds that will approach our area later today. Flooding, mudslides, tree falls, and other issues are possible as Helene approaches our region due to the saturated ground from the rainfall we have already received.
THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. Do not travel unless absolutely necessary. We will post updates as they become available.
Please share rainfall reports, any photos you may have taken, and other details at info@mitchellcountync.gov.
