Haywood County -- June 16, 2024: The N.C. Department of Transportation has just granted a contract to replace

the two bridges on Interstate 40 that span over Beaverdam Road.

Zachry Construction Corporation secured the $33 million contract after submitting the lowest eligible offer. The contract permits the commencement of construction activities as early as July 8, with a stipulated deadline for completion in April of 2028.

A single-arched structure will replace the two bridges over Beaverdam Road. The bridges, which are 63 years old, are undergoing deterioration and facing rising maintenance expenses. Over the past two years, NCDOT technicians have performed over 30 comprehensive concrete repairs on the bridges. The new infrastructure will provide secure and effective transportation for many decades to come.

The overall traffic management strategy maintains two lanes of traffic in each direction throughout the construction period. There is only one situation in which this does not apply, and that is during a 60-hour period when traffic is being redirected and one lane is closed. NCDOT and the contractor expect minimal traffic disruptions during the construction process.
