Asheville -- July 25, 2022: Detectives from the Asheville Police Department are looking into a late-Friday-night shooting  that left one man dead close to downtown Asheville.

At 11:09 on Friday night, APD Patrol Officers went to Lee Garden Lane in response to allegations of a gunshot wound. Hakimye Chavares Bethea, 20, who had been shot multiple times, was discovered there. Soon after Buncombe County EMS arrived, Bethea passed away from his injuries. His next of kin have been informed.
Detectives and forensic specialists from the Criminal Investigations Division worked all through the night and are currently conducting an investigation as they follow up on several leads.
