NC Governor Cooper Orders ABC, Suspension of State Agencies Business with Russian Entities
North Carolina -- Febuary 28, 2022: North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper signed an executive order In accordance
with Executive Order 251, the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Commission has suspended the availability of spirituous liquor products in North Carolina which are produced by Russian entities.
The Executive Order does not just focus on liquor products, the governor clearly condemns Russia's actions, also
orders no further contracts will be made with Russia and North Carolina.
The North Carolina Department of Administration Division of Purchase and Contract,will review all existing state contracts for goods and services to determine whether a Russian entity is a party to the contract, and will terminate any such contracts if they are identified.
The Executive Order reads in part:
"Russia has, without justification or provocation, attacked and invaded Ukraine, a sovereign democracy;
Russia's actions have inflicted and will continue to inflict significant harm
and suffering on the people of Ukraine;
and Russia's actions severely undermine global peace and stability; and
North Carolina is home to thousands of Ukrainian Americans; and
Russia's dangerous actions have already led to a significant additional deployment of American troops, including thousands deployed from North Carolina; and
North Carolina stands with Ukraine and strongly condemns Russia's actions; and
the United States government has strongly condemned Russia's actions and
enacted significant economic sanctions against Russia and Russian-owned businesses in response
to Russia's actions;
and North Carolina is a significant purchaser of goods and services
North Carolina seeks to ensure that its actions do not aid Russia, whether
directly or indirectly
