Asheville --  Late Tuesday night in West Asheville, a pedestrian was killed in a car accident that is being investigated by the Asheville Police Department.

Around 10:01 p.m. on June 10th, officers arrived at the junction of Patton Avenue and North Louisiana Avenue to look into a car accident that involved a pedestrian.

According to the preliminary investigation, a 2000 Nissan Sentra struck a pedestrian who was crossing the street outside of a permitted crosswalk while it was moving west in the far right lane of Patton Avenue through a green traffic signal.  The pedestrian passed away from their wounds at the scene.  More details will be made public after the next of kin has been informed.

The car's driver stayed at the location.  Investigations into the incident are still ongoing.  The officers will discuss any possible further measures regarding the incident with the Buncombe County District Attorney's Office after their work is complete.
