APD Investigate Hit-and-Run, Killing Pedestrian, Another Injured
Asheville -- Patrol officers with the Asheville Police Department are investigating a hit-and-run accident that happened late Tuesday night and left one pedestrian dead and the other injured.
Around 11:36 p.m. on April 8, APD officers responded to a hit-and-run involving two pedestrians close to the junction of Louisiana Avenue and Patton Avenue.
Officers found Tyler Michael White (10/18/1987) close to the center median after arriving. White's next of kin has been informed that he passed away from his wounds while on the scene. A second victim with non-life-threatening injuries was found in a neighboring parking lot and taken to Mission Hospital.
The preliminary investigation indicates a vehicle traveling west on Patton Avenue swerved into the median, striking both pedestrians before fleeing the scene. Investigators believe the suspect vehicle is a silver Mazda SUV, likely with front-end damage and a possible cracked windshield.
Officers are asking if anyone has information about this vehicle, the driver, or the incident to contact APD at (828) 252-1110. You can also send an anonymous tip using the TIP2APD smartphone application (search “Asheville PD” in your app store) or by texting TIP2APD to 847411.
