Buncombe County -- March 5, 2024: Buncombe County Government Community News: Parents, caregivers,

and providers are invited to have an open conversation about the resources, support, and guidance needed at different stages of a child’s life with intellectual and developmental disabilities through a Virtual Listening Session on Monday, March 25 on Zoom from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Through this exploration, we can identify any gaps or missed opportunities in providing families with the necessary information and/or support needed for their child and family to thrive from birth through adulthood.

While Buncombe County is fortunate to have many providers and non-profits that aim to support our youth and families, it can be a challenge to navigate the many resources available and to find the right fit at the right time. This I/DD Listening Session aims to bring together community stakeholders to share information about important steps that families can take throughout a child’s life.

The Virtual Listening Session is open to all, including parents, providers, advocates, and caregivers. This facilitated session will provide: insights into important steps to take at various stages of life, the services and resources available, how this information is shared or found, and current gaps in what is available and/or capacity.  This can inform our community as a whole on how information is shared or accessed and explore opportunities to fill gaps or capacity of services.

If you are not able to attend the listening session, but interested in providing your thoughts, please complete this survey.  We will use this information to create an after-event summary to share with the community and to inform ways that the County can support accessing and sharing of resources.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Victoria Reichard, Behavioral Health Manager at victoria.reichard@buncombecounty.org.
