NC Law Requires Health Inspection in Bars Serving Food
North Carolina: February 19, 2024: North Carolina will mandate that bars serving food controlled by temperature and time have a food service permit.
It is crucial to maintain adequate cleanliness in food-serving facilities to protect public health and prevent food-borne illnesses.
Clubs and bars that serve food that is controlled by temperature and time are subject to the law. It specifies that without a food service permit, establishments are not permitted to prepare, serve, or even handle food items. Packaged snacks will be available for purchase at bars.
"The change in (the law) will provide affected bars the benefit of standards that better protect the public from foodborne illness,” N.C. Dept. of Health and Human Services spokesperson Kelly Haight wrote in an email.
Bars considered private clubs remain exempt.
The new law begins March 27, 2024
