OHIO -- February 12, 2022: Affordable housing plan in the small village of Yellow Springs, Ohio, cancelled after comedian

Dave Chappelle threatened to end his business ventures if they moved forward with the plan.

Chappelle has been a resident of Yellow Springs for years, behind the proposed development. He has been outspoken about his opposition to a housing development that would provide affordable housing for low-income families.  According to The Dayton Daily News , Chappelle and other residents had previously voiced concerns about the development plan. He also stated that he is adamantly opposed to it and would pull out of several businesses he’s developing in the area if the plan moved forward.

Chappelle threatened to end his business endeavors if officials chose to move forward with the affordable housing project. “I cannot believe you would make me audition for you. You look like clowns,” Chappelle said Monday at the village council meeting. “I am not bluffing. I will take it all off the table.”

The affordable housing plan was approved by council members 3-2 on Tuesday, but following Chappelle’s threat, a village official announced that they were withdrawing the proposal.
