Sports -- February 8, 2022 A record number of Americans plan to bet on the Super Bowl, according to a new estimate

from the American Gaming Association, is further proof that people are becoming more comfortable with gambling.

The American Gaming Association (AGA) released data today showing that 31.5 million people will wager on this year’s big game, and that $7.6 billion will be wagered in total—both numbers are new all-time highs. The number of people planning to gamble is up 35% from last year, and the amount of money being bet is up 78% from last year.

The data also shows that Americans are placing bets in a variety of ways: They’re making casual wagers with friends or relatives, they’re entering office pools, they’re using licensed sportsbooks, and they’re betting with illegal bookmakers. In fact, even though Americans are increasingly turning to legal ways to gamble, illegal bookmakers still account for about half of all bets placed on the Super Bowl, according to the AGA.

The AGA says its data show that Americans want access to legal options for gambling and want to protect the integrity of games and bets by having legal options available.
