Charlotte Knobloch #ItStartedWithWords
April 8, 2021 -- #ItStartedWithWords is a social media effort to inform people of the period of time that led up to the
Holocaust.
Below is a post on Facebook by Charlotte Knobloch that includes a video.
This is the introduction to the #ItStartedWithWords by Knobloch:
Before the horrific acts - the murders; the crimes - it was insults and hatred. The injustice. The blind hatred. The contempt - that is how it all started."
When she was four, a little girl in Munich, Germany, used to play with her friends across the street almost every day. And then suddenly, one day, the little girl was told that the children she considered her friends would not be playing with Jewish children any longer.
The little girl was #Holocaust survivor Charlotte Knobloch and she did not know what Jews were, but she knew that she was one. That day her beloved grandmother was able to dry her tears, however, today, more than 80 years later, the pain remains with her.
#ItStartedWithWords is a Holocaust education campaign of survivors from across the world reflecting on the moments that led up to the Holocaust – a period of time when they could not have predicted the ease with which their neighbors, teachers, classmates and colleagues would turn on them, transitioning from words of hate to acts of violence.
