Western North Carolina’s vibrant arts sector is getting a much-needed boost with the newly announced Arts Business Relief Grant, designed to help arts businesses recover from the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene.
 
ArtsAVL, a key supporter of the region’s creative economy, is inviting both for-profit and nonprofit arts businesses to apply for financial assistance, with a deadline set for March 14, 2025, at 11:59 PM.
 
Who Can Apply?
 
Eligible applicants must be actively engaged in craft, visual, or performing arts (including music) and have been producing quality arts programming or products for at least two consecutive years. Businesses must also have an operating budget of at least $20,000 and be physically located in one of the following counties:
 
Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Clay, Cleveland, Gaston, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Lincoln, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yancey.
 
How the Funds Can Be Used
 
Grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded based on the size of the business’s budget and documented revenue losses due to the storm. The funding may be used for a variety of essential expenses, including:
Salaries and artist fees
Production and promotion costs
Programming expenses
Supplies and equipment
Office and facility operations
However, subgranting is not allowed, meaning funds cannot be redistributed to other organizations or individuals.
