Dr. Jill Biden was trending on Twitter this morning. I was curious as to why, so I clicked on it and was surprised at what I found.
There was an article written by Joseph Epstein in the editorial section of the Washington Street Journal. I am not familiar with Epstein and after reading the full article "Is there a Doctor in the house? Not if you need an M.D.' ,I don't plan on getting to know this Epstein.
The following is the beginning of his article:
"Madame First Lady—Mrs. Biden—Jill—kiddo: a bit of advice on what may seem like a small but I think is a not unimportant matter. Any chance you might drop the "Dr." before your name? "Dr. Jill Biden " sounds and feels fraudulent, not to say a touch comic. Your degree is, I believe, an Ed.D., a doctor of education, earned at the University of Delaware through a dissertation with the unpromising title "Student Retention at the Community College Level: Meeting Students' Needs." A wise man once said that no one should call himself "Dr." unless he has delivered a child. Think about it, Dr. Jill, and forthwith drop the doc."
As if this was not insulting enough, Epstein continues later in his opinion piece:
"Then there are all those honorary degrees bestowed on Bill Cosby, Charlie Rose and others who, owing to their proven or alleged sexual predations, have had to be rescinded."
He ends the article telling Dr. Jill Biden that the thrill of living in the white house for the next four years should be enough for her, even though her PHD was hard earned. Just enjoy living in the best public housing.
Apparently Epstein wanted to get a jump on insulting and lashing out before Dr. Jill Biden is First Lady.
I would offer the same advice to Epstein told Dr. Jill Biden to consider stowing her title for now, he should consider stowing your opinion, at least for now.
This country has a pandemic out of control. We have other concerns, people sick, dying, mourning.
Time to stow petty little resentments you have and focus on the health of the people of this country, rather than a "title" the First Lady has earned.
