Our Organization
Charlie's Angels Animal Rescue is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that was founded in early 2009 with the purpose of rescuing animals from the Transylvania County animal shelter which was, at the time, a high-kill shelter. In 2008, records show that 71% of the animals brought to the Transylvania County animal shelter were euthanized. By the end of 2009, 80% percent of the animals were being saved thanks in large part to the efforts of Charlie's Angels Animal Rescue.
The organization continued to grow and in 2012 Charlie's Angels expanded its scope of services and opened Safe Haven, a no-kill shelter in nearby Fletcher, NC. We also expanded our service area in order to help rescue homeless, abandoned, and often neglected animals from shelters in Henderson, McDowell, and Madison Counties. Today, we are one of the leading animal rescue groups in western North Carolina and we are enormously proud of the life-saving work that we do. We work closely with our shelter partners to help animals in need and are often called in to help with horrific hoarding situations. In addition to the work we do with our area county shelters, we are constantly creating new ways to save more animals. One of our most successful partnerships has been with the Aloft hotel in Asheville.
Through the Aloft program, one animal at a time is chosen to be fostered at the hotel. So far, 113 dogs have found new homes through this innovative program. We also began a program in cooperation with the Swannanoa Correctional Center for Women in Black Mountain, NC called New Leash on Life. The program pairs two dogs from Charlie's Angels with inmates who help socialize the dogs while teaching them basic obedience skills. We have also partnered with a number of local, animal-related businesses who help showcase foster dogs in their stores. We do all of this without any government funding. We are 100% reliant on donations. What we do have is a handful of talented and dedicated kennel attendants and a cadre of devoted volunteers and supporters full of dogged determination to make the world a better place for the animals we rescue. We invite you to come see us at Safe Haven and learn more about the life-saving work we do.
