A vigil will take place on February 15th in honor of those lost to Hurricane Helene. Many were lost in our area and this event is meant to pay tribute to those souls.

The event starts at 2 pm. During the day the event will have music  , food  , and a few fun activities like Hula hooping, face painting, a sip and paint class, drum circles, and community jam sessions because music truly soothes the soul.
The celebration of life community vigil will take place alongside the Toe River on the Dirt portion of Whitson Branch Rd. We will walk down from the NCOA Outpost at 5:50pm. The sun should set around 612pm that day. Guests will be given candles  . Guests should bring headlamps for the walk back as the vigil takes place at sunset. Bagpipes and a violinist will play across the river. Event is rain or shine or snow, come hell or high water   to say our goodbyes and send our prayers down river.

Afterwards guests will get to enjoy a bonfire with our dessert   -a- palooza dinner! A buffet-style event where you can have cake and eat it too. An event full of every dessert imaginable. A band will play for 1.5 hours during the sweet feast before everyone departs around 9 pm.
When: Saturday Feb 15, 2025 - 2 PM - 9 PM
Where: 1173 Whitson Branch Rd, Bakersville, NC

We are seeking the following for the event:

* bag pipers and a violinist to play across the river where our neighbor, Lenny's house stood during the vigil. He is still one of the missing!
*1-2 food trucks for the entire event and several sweet treats pastry chefs for dessertapalooza buffet.
*paint and SIP event person
*Hula hooping folks
*slack lining and Ariel silks folks
*  axe throwing booth or something similar
*2 shuttle drivers
I wanna support local businesses when filling the above needs if at all possible but open to all Volunteers. Your business info will be on all marketing, media and flyers!
Event cliff   notes:
Event is free but we are asking for donations for the planned activities (details coming soon with sign ups). All donations will support activities costs and any remaining funds will go to river and stream restoration and cleanup.
We have limited parking so please carpool. We can also shuttle folks down from the top of Whitson Branch Rd with overflow parking near the church.
The event is sponsored by @Resilient Appalachia Disaster Relief Fund and @nc outdoor adventures.
