Lake Lure -- Lake Lure News: The Washburn Marina and Lake Lure Boardwalk will be open on Saturday, June 6, 2020 for the season.

Please be safe and enjoy the beauty of Lake Lure from our new Boardwalk!

DESPITE MAJOR OBSTACLES: The new Marina and Boardwalk were constructed off site and have been installed in an eyelash pattern off the new Boardwalk. The project was scheduled to be completed by the end of the day on Friday, 5/22/20. Marathon Builders, Lake Lure Electric, and their crews worked tirelessly (even in the rain) to move this project forward to have the soft opening for the Memorial Day weekend. There will be ongoing refinements that will require coordination with those renting boat slips.

INCREASED CONVENIENCE: The Town is pleased to report that although the number of boats using the lake has not increased as a result of this project.  The number of boat slips has increased, making it much more convenient to moor boats. The new Marina will house up to 208 boat slips, an increase from the old marina that had 72 boat slips.

NO TAX DOLLARS SPENT: The Town is pleased that the Marina/Boardwalk project will pay for itself. By expanding the Marina and combining this work with the Boardwalk replacement as one project, the Town was able to replace the old wooden Boardwalk that had reached it's useful life, without placing the costs on Lake Lure Tax Payers. Additionally, a portion of the cost for the new Boardwalk is being covered through a grant with the Rutherford County Tourism Development Authority.

COORDINATION: The Town has forwarded information regarding access to boat slip renters via email.  Town staff are personally contacting each owner to coordinate use of the new slips as early as possible once the final refinements are completed.

CELEBRATION AND RECOGNITION: We are excited about  the new Washburn Marina and Lake Lure Boardwalk Marina and will keep you posted as we schedule a formal ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate this great accomplishment. In the meantime, please come out and enjoy the new Lake Lure Boardwalk and Marina.

Special thanks to Dean Givens for his oversight of this project in coordination with the Lake Lure Mayor, Town Manager, and Town Council.  Thank you to Linda Ward for her coordination with Boat Slip Renters.

PLEASE USE CAUTION: Please remember to practice social distancing.  Wearing masks is recommended in public areas where social distancing is not possible.
