Did you know we're in the midst of Coyote Mating Season here in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park? That's right! From late January through March, these clever canines are on the lookout for mates.
However, it's important to remember that while coyotes (Canis latrans) are generally elusive and avoid humans, they can become more visible during this period. Coyotes are monogamous and can form strong pair bonds, often seen together while scouting for food or territory. Coyotes typically have litters of 5-7 pups, although litter size can vary based on factors such as food availability and environmental conditions.
If you're lucky enough to spot these magnificent creatures, please admire them from a distance. Remember, interfering with the natural behavior of wildlife can be stressful for the animals and potentially dangerous for you.
