Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision In South Asheville
Asheville -- Press Release Asheville Police Department: The Asheville Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that
occurred Tuesday evening in south Asheville, resulting in the death of a motorcycle driver.
APD Patrol Officers responded to the collision near the 51-mile marker on Interstate 40 East around 8:10 p.m. on February 4th. The preliminary investigation indicates a 2023 Harley Davidson three-wheeled motorcycle, operated by Richard William Walker (09/18/1944), entered I-40 East, traveling westbound in the wrong direction. The motorcycle then collided with a semi-tractor trailer traveling eastbound on the interstate. Walker succumbed to his injuries on the scene; next of kin has been notified.
I-40 East was closed for three and a half hours while officers worked the scene.
