Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision In Asheville

Asheville -- December 27, 2024: Asheville Police Department officers are investigating a fatal single motor vehicle collision that occurred on December 9th in east Asheville.

Officers responded to a motor vehicle collision with injuries on I-240 West near exit 7 around 7:57 a.m. on December 9th. The preliminary investigation indicates a 2012 Dodge passenger van operated by Ryan Nicholas Grimes (05/11/1990) was traveling west on I-240 near the Tunnel Road exit, left the roadway, and collided with the base of an interstate sign. Grimes was transported to Mission Hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later succumbed to his injuries on December 21st; next of kin has been notified.
