Asheville -- October 30, 2024: Officers from the Asheville Police Department apprehended two individuals on drug charges on Monday in West Asheville.
 
Officers were executing proactive enforcement in response to community complaints regarding illicit drug activities in West Asheville. APD officers encountered Brian Scott Justice and Melina Dean Deal loitering at a shop in the 200 block of State Street, which had "No Trespassing" signs up, after hours at around 9:54 p.m. on October 28th.
 
During the investigation, Justice was discovered to possess methamphetamine. He was apprehended and indicted for felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance. The individual was discovered to possess fentanyl and Carisoprodol. She was apprehended and charged with felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance.
 
Justice was incarcerated at the Buncombe County Detention Facility without the possibility of bond due to a probation violation.
The transaction was recorded at the Buncombe County Detention Facility with a secured bond of $5,000 (or $500 to a bondsman) issued by a magistrate.
