Brevard -- Last night, the Brevard Police Department announced in a news release a Florida man was the driver in a deadly hit-and-run on October 3, 2023.

Law enforcement has identified Robert Michael Boland, 45, of Palm City, Florida, as driving the vehicle that struck and killed Roy Lee Waters, 50, of Brevard, on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2023.  According to the release, that Tuesday around 9:30 p.m. Walker was struck as he walked in the travel lanes, on southbound Asheville Highway. The collision occurred in front of Tidal Wave Car Wash and CVS. The vehicle was a dark silver-colored Dodge Durango, possibly 2011, or 2012, with a damaged passenger side and front end.

Waters was taken to a local hospital for treatment, he died on Friday, October 6, 2023.

Law enforcement is currently seeking Boland, who fled the area during the investigation.
