APD Arrest of Felon on Gun and Drug Charges

Asheville -- March 17, 2023: An armed felon with Fentanyl was apprehended by APD Detectives and Officers
working with state partners.

Around 1:30 pm on March 14, detectives near the 500 block of Hendersonville Road spotted and detained Nathaniel Charles Smith as they investigated a string of violent offenses. Smith was discovered to be in possession of both cocaine and a Glock 23 during the arrest.

Seized:
-Glock 23 pistol (.40 cal)
-1.3g of fentanyl
Charged:
-Possession of Firearm by Felon
-Felony Possess Schedule II
-Carrying a Concealed Gun
-Simple Possess Schedule II
-Driving While License Revoked
Smith was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $31,500 secured bond (or $3,150 to a bondsman) issued by the magistrate.
