Cleaveland -- March 7, 2023: Norfolk Southern has revealed that a train conductor
was killed on Tuesday morning.

According to authorities, a dump truck struck the conductor, Louis Shuster, as a Norfolk Southern train was passing through a crossing at the Cleveland-Cliffs Cleveland Works property.

According to Norfolk Southern, they have been in touch with Shuster's family and will do everything in their power to help them as well as his coworkers at this difficult time. In order to corroborate all information on the occurrence, the company is also collaborating with local authorities.

"We are grieving the loss of a colleague today," the company said in a statement, "Our hearts go out to his loved ones during this extremely difficult time."

FRA, NTSB, and OSHA are investigating after a collision this morning killed a Norfolk Southern conductor in Cleveland," tweeted Transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg. "Our thoughts are with the family facing this preventable tragedy. Now more than ever, it is time for stronger freight railroad accountability and safety."

An investigation into the incident has been opened by the NTSB.
