Jan 6 Panel Recommends DOJ Investigate Donald Trump
News -- December 19, 2022: Former President Donald Trump was unanimously referred to federal prosecutors for his role in the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021,
and the larger campaign to overturn his loss in the 2020 election by the House Select Committee investigating the incident. The vote took place on Monday.
The committee also approved the release of its final report, which will include suggestions on legislation to avoid such an attack in the future, and agreed to refer four serving House members to the House Ethics Committee.
The committee's vote wrapped up an 18-month probe of the former president, his advisers, congressmen, and others in his orbit, but there's little sign that Congress will move quickly on suggestions to avert another assault.
For refusing to appear before the panel in response to a subpoena, the panel recommended California's Kevin McCarthy, the House Republican leader, as well as Arizona's Andy Biggs, Ohio's Jim Jordan, and Pennsylvania's Scott Perry, to the House Ethics Committee. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) is leaving office, making him the fifth member who refused to comply with a subpoena.
