Asheville, North Carolina (July 27, 2022): Patrol officers from the Asheville Police Department detained a man for assault after he severed a portion of another man's ear early on Wednesday.

Eric E. Griffin was taken into custody at a home in the 20 block of Swant tonoa Avenue at around 1:30 a.m. on July 27. He was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury after he cut off part of another man’s ear.

To receive treatment for a significant cut to his right ear, the victim was taken by Buncombe County EMS to Mission Hospital. A portion of the victim's ear was discovered inside the house by APD Patrol Officers who were processing the incident at the property; they took it to Mission Hospital.
The suspect was also given medical attention at Mission Hospital for wounds he sustained during the altercation before being taken to the Buncombe County Detention Facility to be booked on charges of assault and possession of Schedule II (cocaine); he has a $1,500 secured bond. He was also treated for his injuries at Mission Hospital.
