Wilson Police Department Honor Memory of Police Captain
Wilson, NC -- January 8 at 6:22 PM · Wilson Police Department
Members of the Wilson Police Department were joined today by other law enforcement agencies and first responders in bringing home Capt. Reggie Smith from Vidant Medical Center. The procession came through downtown around 12:15 p.m.
Dozens of police officers, community members and others stood in respect as the procession stopped in front of the Wilson Police Department headquarters.
The procession also stopped in front of the Wilson Transit Center where Smith had been stationed. The procession ended at Stevens Funeral Home, which is handling the arrangements.
Captain Smith served the department for nearly 23 years, beginning as a patrol officer, progressing through the ranks and promoted to Captain in 2018. He was very involved with the Wilson Police Athletic/Activities League, most recently serving as Wilson PAL president, and he was a mentor and friend to countless Wilson youth.
He died Friday from a medical condition while in the line of duty.
We are grateful for Capt. Smith's life, his service and his legacy, and we mourn his passing with all those who knew and loved him.
