Rutherford County -- Inmate James Pittman escaped Tuesday while on work release from the Rutherford Correctional Center. Below is the North Carolina Department of Public Safety Press Release.

July 31, 2018

State correctional and local law enforcement officers are seeking Rutherford Correctional Center minimum custody inmate James Pittman (#0559036), who was reported missing from his work release assignment in Marion on Tuesday. Pittman was last seen near the intersection of U.S. 221 and Interstate 40 at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Pittman, 45, is a white male with a medium build who stands 5-foot-11 and weighs 243 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes originally from Bladenboro, NC. He was serving a 15- to 27-month sentence for obtaining property by false pretenses and was admitted to prison on June 4, 2014. He was scheduled for release in May 2020.
