
McDowell County Woman Faces Multiple Drug Charges
McDowell County -- Melissa Bowman Raines, 53, of Nebo, was charged by the McDowell County Sheriff's Office Community Impact Team with
felony possession of methamphetamine and criminal possession
of a controlled substance on jail property. A $25,000 secured bail was issued to her. Raines was taken from another law enforcement agency to the McDowell County Detention Center on January 30. An MCSO detention staff member found a glass smoking bowl and a probable quantity of methamphetamine on her person as she was being processed. On March 5, a warrant for her arrest was issued after charges were filed.
During an NC State Highway Patrol traffic check in Nebo on Tuesday, March 11, Deputy Ryan Washburn arrested Raines on those allegations.
Detention officials found another suspected quantity of methamphetamine on her person after she was taken to the McDowell County
Detention Center once more, which resulted in further charges.
Raines was subsequently charged again with felony Possession of a Controlled Substance on Jail Premises and felony Possession of Methamphetamine. She was given a secured bond of $50,000.
