#GivingTuesday WNC
Entering its seventh year, #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.
Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy with events throughout the year and a growing catalog of resources.
Give Local:
Towards the end of each year, we take moments to pause and consider our family and friends. We remember the warmth they have brought to our hearts and the impact that they have had on our lives. It is also a time to consider what impact we have had, and can have, on our friends, neighbors, and community. In 2018, the Y will serve thousands of children and families through enrichment programs like afterschool, Camp Watia, and Safety Around Water. Our neighbors will also be served by wellness outreach, including nutrition distributions and healthy aging classes. It takes each of us standing together to build a stronger community, and as you consider your friends and family this season, please take a moment to consider making a gift to the YMCA’s campaign, which will teach, connect, empower, heal, nourish, and encourage all the lives we touch in 2018.
We depend entirely on support from our community of animal welfare advocates and people who love their furry family members to keep our organization running smoothly. The funds that are donated or raised through special events pay mainly for the care of our animals, which includes medical care, food, preventatives for fleas, heartworm and other parasites, and kennel supplies, maintenance and repairs. We have staff dedicated to the welfare of our animals, including kennel assistants, behaviorist, medical assistant, an office manager and adoption center manager. Other expenses include overhead such as rent, insurance, vehicle maintenance, and utilities. All told, our average monthly expenses amount to $X.
Your donations of goods and services are also a huge benefit in helping us keep our animals happy and healthy and help save on monetary expenditures. We appreciate donations of supplies such as paper towels, Clorox wipes, laundry and dish detergent, and bleach, as well as old towels, blankets, dog and cat beds, treats, toys, collars and leashes.
Why the Animals Need It
As the county shelter has improved their live release rate over the years since Sarge’s and other groups have provided support, the population of animals we serve are older, less healthy, or have behavior problems that render them difficult to place. This means we are more likely to need veterinary care, including some surgeries and hospital stays, medications, medical testing, and behavioral consults and training plans. Our goal is to match as many animals as possible with a permanent, loving home regardless of the obstacles that must be overcome first.

Donations may be designated for Sarge’s “WuzBug Fund for Special Needs”, which was established to help with extraordinary medical expenses, such as heartworm treatments, surgeries, dental cleanings and extractions.
