The Craggies are just 30 minutes from Ashville, North Carolina, home of George Vanderbilt’s magnificent 8,000-acre Biltmore Estate. The Craggies, for example, are known for Rugged terrain, Exposed rock surfaces, High peaks, and Views of the southern Appalachian ridges. The Craggies border The Black Mountains; the highest range of peaks in the eastern United States. Six of the ten highest peaks in the eastern United States are in the Black Mountain range. Including Mitchell. At 6,683 ft, Mt. Mitchell is the the highest peak in the Appalachian Mountains. In fact, it’s the highest peak east of the Mississippi. Sources vary a few hundred feet, but the average elevation of The Black Mountains Range is over 6K feet.
