The Helping Hands Concert Series brings stars from across the music spectrum to Banner Elk this summer for three benefit concerts. Shows take place at Hayes Auditorium on the campus of Lees-McRae College to raise funds for those impacted by Hurricane Helene in Avery and Watauga counties.

The June 6 concert features Country Music Hall of Famer Jimmy Fortune of the Statler Brothers and bluegrass stars Darin & Brooke Aldridge.

Jimmy Fortune sang with The Statler Brothers for 21 years and was part of four No. 1 songs on the country chart. Along with The Statler Brothers, he was inducted into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Country Music Association Hall of Fame in 2008.

Since the retirement of The Statler Brothers in 2002, Fortune has enjoyed a successful solo career and was inducted into the Virginia Musical Hall of Fame in 2018.

Darin & Brooke Aldridge, well-known to bluegrass fans all over the world, were named Bluegrass Artists of the Year in 2023, while Brooke has won the International Bluegrass Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year four times.

Each concert in the Helping Hands series is expected to sell out. Tickets are $50 for general admission and $75 for VIP reserved seats. A limited number of fans can purchase tickets to a special VIP meet and greet reception prior to each show. Those meet-and-greet tickets are $225 per person.

For more info or to purchase tickets, visit the Elk River Helping Hands website.

Sylva's 11th annual Fireworks Festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 4, 2025 at the Bridge Park.
The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce is proud to welcome the band Gotcha Groove to the stage for a performance from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. They are one of the southeast's finest bands. They will perform classic hits, pop favorites, R&B, Motown, soul and beach music.

Fireworks are organized and provided by Jackson County and should begin at dark immediately after the concert, approximately 9:30 p.m. The fireworks are visible from various locations throughout downtown Sylva and the immediate surrounding areas.

"We could not possibly have fireworks in Sylva the last 10 years without the help and support of our friends at the Town of Sylva, Jackson County Permitting Office (Tony Elders and Doug Painter), Jackson County Commissioners, and the Jackson County Parks and Recreation Department," said Chamber Executive Director Julie Donaldson.

Music on Main is a beloved annual tradition in Weaverville, described as a free, open-air, one-night street concert and community festival. It transforms a section of South Main Street into a vibrant celebration, typically held on a Saturday evening in mid-June. For 2025, it's scheduled for Saturday, June 14th, usually running from the late afternoon (around 4:00 or 5:00 PM) until about 9:00 PM.

Location & Setup:
The event takes place right on South Main Street in front of Weaverville Town Hall (30 S. Main St). To accommodate the festival, Main Street is closed to traffic between Brown Street and Merrimon Avenue for several hours before, during, and after the event. The music stage is set up near Town Hall. Free parking is typically available nearby, often highlighted at Weaverville Primary School.

What's Happening:

Live Music: The main attraction is the music! Usually, three bands perform throughout the evening, featuring talented local and regional acts. Past genres have included a mix of Americana, folk, jam bands, rock, soul, Appalachian roots, and more, offering something for various tastes. Attendees often bring folding chairs or blankets to relax and enjoy the performances.
Food & Drink: Local food vendors set up shop, often in a designated "food court" area, offering various options for purchase. Beer and wine are typically sold as well. Many of the regular Main Street restaurants within the event area remain open, providing additional dining choices. In recent years, the event has sometimes operated as a "Social District," allowing attendees to buy alcoholic drinks from participating vendors/restaurants and carry them within the designated event boundaries (no outside alcohol permitted).
Kids' Zone: It's very family-friendly, featuring a dedicated Kids' Zone. Past activities have included things like face painting, bubbles, games (cornhole, ring toss), putt-putt, an inflatable bounce house, LEAF's mobile art bus (Easel Rider), and even visits from a fire truck.
Community Atmosphere: The event is known for its welcoming, bustling, small-town community vibe. It's organized by the Weaverville Business Association with town support and relies on local volunteers. Expect to see sponsor booths lining the street and neighbors mingling. It's a rain-or-shine event, so people come prepared to have a good time regardless of the weather!

Jeff Foxworthy is one of the most respected and successful comedians in the country. He is the largest selling comedy-recording artist in history, a multiple Grammy Award nominee and best selling author of more than 26 books. In 2014, he was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. Widely known for his redneck jokes, his act goes well beyond that to explore the humor in everyday family interactions and human nature, a style that has been compared to Mark Twain's.

Jeff is one of the judges on the new NBC comedy competition show "Bring The Funny," which premiered July 9, 2019 and is one of summer's hit shows. He has his own comedy channel "Jeff and Larry's Comedy Roundup" on SIRIUSXM, which showcases the best in great American comedy. He has a comedy special "We've Been Thinking" which is currently available on Netflix and most recently released a game called "Relative Insanity" which uses bits of his material for lots of game time fun. In addition to all of this he continues his live performances across the country.
