These guidelines apply to posts, replies, media, profiles, and groups. They are designed to encourage lively local conversation while protecting real people from real harm.
Share what you know honestly
Separate firsthand information from rumor or opinion. Correct mistakes when you learn more, and link to reliable sources when a claim could affect public safety.
Protect private locations
Do not publish someone’s home address, live location, phone number, private messages, or other identifying information without permission. Use approximate neighborhood sharing for residential posts.
Keep groups purposeful
Group names and descriptions should clearly explain the local community they serve. Group leaders may guide their space but remain subject to site-wide newsroom moderation.
No exploitation or illegal content
Spam, scams, impersonation, hate, sexual exploitation, credible threats, and content that facilitates illegal harm are not allowed.
Report; do not pile on
Use the private report tool when something needs attention. Reports go to moderators. Do not organize public harassment or repost harmful material to call attention to it.
How moderation works
1. Members report privately.Reports include a reason and go to the moderation queue.
2. Context is reviewed.Moderators may dismiss, limit, remove, or escalate content based on severity and history.
3. Safety comes first.Accounts or groups may be restricted for repeated or serious violations. Immediate threats may be referred to appropriate authorities.
Moderation decisions are made under these standards and applicable law. Publishing on Community does not make a post part of the paper’s reported journalism unless clearly identified as such.
