Friends of Haywood County Animal Shelter Reminds Pet Owners: Donā€™t forget hydration in winter! Indoor heating dries the air, and pets may feel less thirsty, risking dehydration. Hydration is key for vital functions and preventing winter health issues.
Here are quick, natural hydration tips for pets in winter:
ā€¢ Warm Water: Offer lukewarm water; mix with food.
ā€¢ Hydrating Foods: Add wet food or safe snacks like cucumber.
    ā€¢ Pet-Safe Broth: Bone or low-sodium broth (no onion/garlic).
ā€¢ Frozen Treats: Freeze diluted broth or juice.
ā€¢ Play & Hydrate: Offer water after playing in the snow.
ā€¢ Fresh Water: Keep bowls clean, unfrozen, and refreshed.
ā€¢ Portable Bowls: Carry water on winter walks.

Waynesville Police Department:: The Waynesville Police Department will host a basic self-defense class using the R.A.D. Defense System Techniques on March 15th at the WPD. This class is for WOMEN Only.
The purpose of R.A.D. self-defense is to raise awareness about violence against women and provide participants with the skills necessary to defend against an assault or attack.
We would like to limit the class to 20 people. If the class is full, we will schedule more classes and keep the public informed via Social Media Outlets. This class is FREE of charge, donations are accepted.
If interested, please call Chief David Adams or Diane Robinson at the Waynesville Police Department (828) 456-8611 or email dadams@waynesvillenc.gov or drobinson@waynesville.gov .
If you plan on attending, please wear comfortable clothing, athletic-type shorts, shirt, and athletic shoes with closed toes.

Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation: Did you know Sargeā€™s has saved the lives of over 12,000 pets? We couldnā€™t have done that without the support from our community! As a non-profit rescue we operated with the help of over 700 volunteers, our tight knit staff, and of course donations made by those who support our mission and helping animals across Haywood County.
We canā€™t thank those enough who have helped us over the years starting in 2005 and allow us to continue to be a part of this community. Your donations mean the world to not only us, but the animals we take in. Donations, whether monetary or physical, go towards medical treatment to ensure a healthy pet is adopted, behavior and enrichment so that each animal in our care is physically and mentally exercised, food for not just our animals in care, but for pets in the community with our donation based pet food and supplies to help when families need it most, and so much more!
As our shelter continues to grow and evolve with more animals needing to be saved, we now have a Venmo for our rescue to continue to give the best care for our animals while not only in our care, but to aid in assistance for pets already in homes.
With your donations, we can continue to help animals across Haywood County to find and keep their homes šŸ¾ā™„ļø
