August 17, 2018

In January, Park Ridge Health will change its name to AdventHealth. MAHEC Family Health Centers received the Mother-Baby Award from the NCBC. And a film by Mars Hill University, on the Shelton Laurel Massacre, has placed as a semifinalist in the 2018 Southeastern International Film Festival.
Achievement

GE Aviation Asheville, the world leader in delivering Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) components for commercial aviation applications, celebrated the delivery of its 25,000th CFM International LEAP engine turbine shroud today. Just five years after breaking ground, CMC production at the site is thriving. Shroud production rates for the LEAP program have more than tripled each year since the site opened. Today, these Asheville-produced shrouds have surpassed more than 1.5 million flight hours on the 800+ LEAP engines in commercial airline service.
MAHEC Family Health Centers and Ob/Gyn Specialists have received the Mother-Baby Award from the North Carolina Breastfeeding Coalition in addition to being recognized as a Breastfeeding Business and Workplace. MAHEC joins 23 awardees statewide and is one of only two outpatient health clinics in WNC to be recognized by NCBC for their commitment to evidence-based, high-quality breastfeeding support.

A film about the Shelton Laurel Massacre, created by Mars Hill University has placed as a semifinalist for the 2018 Southeastern International Film Festival. The film was produced to accompany “The Civil War in the Southern Highlands: A Human Perspective,” an exhibition curated and displayed at Mars Hill University’s Rural Heritage Museum in late 2017 and early 2018.
Park Ridge Health is excited to share that once again our Breast Center has received the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) three-year/full accreditation. This accreditation underscores the fact that receiving care at the Park Ridge Health Breast Center means patients will have access to comprehensive care, a full range of state-of-the-art services, a breast health nurse navigator and so much more as we deliver whole-person care – body, mind and spirit.

Announcement

Park Ridge Health’s parent company, Adventist Health System, has announced that it will soon change its name to AdventHealth. The name change will help consumers easily identify and connect with our organization’s health services. As part of this extensive network of care, our hospital’s name will also change. Effective Jan. 2, 2019, we will become AdventHealth Hendersonville.
For the 24th year running, Friends of the Smokies, an official nonprofit partner of the National Park Service, will host the Friends Across the Mountains Telethon to raise money for Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP). This year’s Friends Across the Mountains Telethon will be broadcast live on WBIR Channel 10 in Knoxville and WLOS News 13 in Asheville on Wednesday, August 15th from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter Sarah McLachlan comes to Asheville on Saturday, September 22 for a benefit concert hosted by the Green Side Up Foundation to support local pediatric cancer patients in the Asheville area. The event will take place at the U.S. Cellular Center in Asheville at 7 PM.
Expansion

Pardee UNC Health Care filed a certificate of need (CON) for an ambulatory surgery center on Wednesday, Aug. 15. Ambulatory surgery centers provide outpatient, same-day surgical procedures.
