End of an Era: Sentelle's Seafood in Clyde Announces Closure After Over 60 Years
Clyde -- A fixture in downtown Clyde for over six decades, Sentelle's Seafood & Specialty Market has announced its upcoming closure, signaling the end of a remarkable family legacy built on bringing fresh seafood to the mountains.
The Sentelle family shared the news via social media, explaining that the decision, while "heart-wrenching," comes as they look towards retirement.
For over 60 years, Sentelle's, located at 8275 Carolina Blvd, successfully fulfilled that vision. It became a trusted "seafood hub," known not just locally but across Western North Carolina for overcoming the challenge of providing truly fresh, high-quality seafood far from the coast. Past reports highlighted offerings ranging from North Carolina flounder to Alaskan halibut and Maine lobster. The market expanded to include local gourmet food products, craft beer, and wine, solidifying its place as a specialty destination.
The deep connection to the community and the business itself was evident in the family's closing announcement. "Sentelle’s has been a lifelong journey for me and my family," they wrote. "We are looking forward to our next adventure, which is retirement... It was a heart wrenching decision and one we did not make lightly."
Gratitude towards their loyal customer base was a central theme of the announcement. "All of you, our friends/customers have made us successful by liking what we do and in return you have given us your unwavering support. WE THANK YOU!"
The impact of Sentelle's extends beyond just providing seafood; it represents the success of a multi-generational family business that became integral to its community. Its closure marks the end of daily operations for a landmark that has served Clyde for decades.
Sentelle's Seafood & Specialty Market will close its doors for the final time at 5:00 PM on Friday, April 26th, 2025.
"Once again, thank you for taking this journey with us," the family concluded. "We love you and will miss each and every one of you." Customers undoubtedly feel the same and will be wishing the Sentelle family all the best in their well-earned retirement.
