Yancey County -- March 5, 2026: Serious Warning from the Yancey County Humane Society: We're fixing to get REALLY REAL with the residents of Yancey County.

And it's scary. So pay attention and share this post far and wide.

On Monday we took in a litter of puppies probably not even 6 weeks old that had been abandoned. Because of the increase in parvo we have started testing almost all animals when they come through the door. These six week old puppies tested positive for parvo. Not only is that a tragic and painful death, It is also something that will leave behind it's virus in the ground and on everything that it touches. Thankfully there is a new treatment that is showing a lot of hope for treating parvo dogs but those five puppies cost us almost $1000 to treat and that is us not even having to take them to the vet.

Today we took in three dogs from Animal Control and we tested them and guess what? Positive for parvo. These three due to their size will cost us about $2,000 to treat. And we will do it because that is what we do.

The purpose of this post is to let you know that parvo is rampant in our county and it has been since the flood. If you have an animal that has not been vaccinated and is not up to date on vaccines they are at risk and there is a much higher than average chance that they will contract parvo. If you have to take your dog to the vet to save its life it will be thousands of dollars. And it will leave behind in its wake of virus that will infect every other animal you bring into your home or your yard for many years.

!!!VACCINATE YOUR DOGS!!!! We cannot say it any plainer. We do not have the money to help you treat your dogs if they get sick. Go to Max Ballew's or Sasquatch Dog Supplies today and buy a vaccine. Kept it cold until you get home and vaccinate. Then do it again in a month. And again.
